Slanty Eyed Mama presents: disOrientalism

Meet Slanty Eyed Mama: A duo of professional paradigm busters, politicomic shit-talkers, spoken word tricksters, and outrageous satirists.  They are bringing their signature mashup of Rock n' Roll, Comedy, Hip Hop, Spoken Word and Electric Violin magic to WFTW for an unforgettable night of Asian slanted madness.  CanAsian comedian Kate Rigg (FOX's Family Guy, Law and Order, The Dr. Phil Show, The PATH) and virtuostic electric violinist Lyris Hung (Indigo Girls, Jay-Z, Bono) met while studying at the Juilliard school and have been bringing their street infused brand of comedy and music to Asian and non-Asian audiences across the world ever since.  They have been artists in residence at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington (as well as several dive bars in New York City.) Bring your Asian Friend. Come get disoriented with us!

Stunning  dense, multi-layered, surreal imagery interlocks perfectly with ferociously distorted, nasty, searing violin work, a killer combination of words, music and noise.- Anchorage Daily News

Wild- Northwest Asian Weekly

Smart, EdgyThe Slantys dig fearlessly into the identity issues facing Amerasians, smashing stereotypes and spotlighting the subtle and not-so-subtle prejudices they face.Rigg used stereotypes against themselves to nuanced but devastating effect.-Washington Post
